Non-profit and open-source discounts

Open-source & non-profits make the world a better place, providing software & services to those in need. In order to do our part, GitBook is free for open-source and non-profits teams!


We welcome applications from organizations that hold a valid charitable status 501(c) or similar as well as open-source applications with a GitHub related project.

All eligible organizations must fill in the form available on our pricing page in the web widget. We’ll review your application and apply the discount if you are entitled.

Your organization must not be any of the following:

  • A religious organization (inc. church or promoting a specific religious affiliation as part of its mission)

  • A government office

  • A school, college, university or affiliated

  • A political organization

  • A private foundation

Your organization also won't do any of the following:

  • Promoting discrimination of any kind, on the basis of the gender (identity or expression), race, ethnicity, political or religious opinion, sexual orientation, etc...

  • Promote a dogma, religious position or dogma as part of your activity

How to apply

To apply for the open-source / non-profit discount, you need to have:

  • a GitBook User account

  • and a GitBook Organization

Don't have a GitBook User account yet? You can sign up for one here.

Don't already have a GitBook Organization? You can create one and start a 14 days trial.


  1. Go to our pricing page on

  2. Click on "Request Free Access" in the "Community" panel on the page

  3. Follow the instructions in the chatbot

You might be required to provide additional information for us to validate your organization type:

  • open-source: link to your GitHub repo

  • non-profit: proof of your non-profit status (Such as a copy of your 501(c)(3) or your country's equivalent proof of non-profit status)

We will respond to your query as soon as possible - please allow up to 48h to for us to review your status and update your account.
